Margaret Hancock is an independent philanthropy advisor working directly with foundations and funders. Her experienced perspective is derived from more than two decades in art and philanthropy — industries where thoughtful strategy and engagement moves forward everything from a groundbreaking exhibition to an unprecedented investment.

Prior to founding Bow Advisors, Margaret served as the Executive Director of the Virginia Commission for the Arts, overseeing the state agency and its multimillion-dollar grant program. In addition to this leadership role, Margaret has conceptualized, implemented, and advised on diverse philanthropic initiatives for sophisticated institutions and funders at the global, national, and local level. She holds a master’s degree from the University of Virginia and a bachelor’s degree from Duke University.
